About this deal

The baffle system across the pad makes it collect dirt like nobody’s business. I think the friction from the micro dirt buildup ultimately led to the little hole in mine (it also uses relatively thin 20D fabric). The pad does come with an inflation bag, but otherwise, as with any inflatable pad, the moisture buildup inside this pad from breath inflation could be an issue over time. Some people don’t care for the dramatic taper of the NeoAir mummy pads, but the rectangular version of the XLite NXT solves that problem. TLDR Rugged: Compared with inflatable sleeping pads, which become unreliable or totally useless with a pinhole leak, CCF pads can take abuse without degrading performance. The comfort might not be top-notch, but it is reliable. Sea to Summit has yet again graced our list. This time with the Comfort Plus SI sleeping pad. This is the pad to go with if the priority is 3-season comfort above all else. Delivering a cushy 2.5 inches of padding, this self-inflating sleeping pad is also built from 30-denier stretch-knit top fabric, which is going to deliver a slightly more durable performance over lightweight pads. Taller nodes create more space for uncompressed sleeping bag insulation, trapping more warmth around your body. I use such a combination in 3 seasons conditions too, the very thin German army folding mat and a Klymit Inertia O-Zone Recon Sand air mat. The closed cell foam mat protects the comfortable and relatively expensive airmat against the ground and functions as a life boat should the airmat give up.

Durability: While CCF may be rugged, I hesitate to call it durable. It can handle punctures, but heavy use will compress and deform the material over time, just like the midsole of your favorite trail shoes. Conversely, inflatable pads can’t handle punctures but will maintain performance and comfort for many years if leaks are avoided. Now that the results are in, I hope you find it easier to choose a sleeping pad for your travel style 🙂

Best Ultralight Sleeping Pads of 2023 – iRunFar

But it also left feet of snow and chest-high water crossings on the Mogollon Rim late into the hiking season - some hikers were snowshoeing that section! That said, having a double sleeping pad makes sense in a variety of situations. For car camping, festival use, or an awesome mattress substitute for your adventure camper van – the Exped Mega Mat Duo 10 is a great choice for couples. That said, the STS Ultralight Insulated pad delivers an all-around great three season performance for the price. If you’re new to exploring and camping outdoors, you might be worried about how cozy your sleeping bag is going to be. It’s important to remember here that a good sleeping bag with a camping pad can create a level of warmth, insulation, and comfort that simply wouldn’t be possible with a sleeping bag alone. One doesn't need to sleep on an airmat to set it under stress, it's surely enough to carry it around every day.

That said, CCF pads don’t last forever. With extended use, the foam will compress, the comfort-giving dimples will flatten, and the heat-reflecting shine will dull. This is why I choose the word “rugged” instead of “durable”. Although no inflatable pad will ever be truly quiet, I’ve found Big Agnes pads to be among the least squeaky I’ve tried. I also like that the Rapide is available in six different sizes so you can dial the fit, weight, and price according to your needs. Even though the valve design with separate inflate and deflate valves is clunkier than some, it makes setting up camp hassle-free. Noteworthy Features The Xtherm does a terrific job of retaining heat. Pretty much all of the mainstream gear testers have showered the Xtherm with rewards for the duration of it’s life. Closed-cell foam pads are great for any occasion, including this on-trail wedding in the Winds. CCF Pros:This year, the Arizona Trail had some unique perks and challenges for thru-hike hopefuls. An intense snow year in the Southwest meant we didn’t have to worry much about dried up water sources or long water carries, and we got to see a massive super bloom in the Sonoran Desert. As you see, that's more my personal minimalistic and nomadic lifestyle than a shorter recreational hiking tour. And apart from the fact that I keep my stuff easily portable, I don't really plan to walk really long distances with the heavy version. Another point is, that we have nearly exclusively pine forests around Berlin, often one can't find hardwood for the fire. Mummy shape: Shaves weight while still providing plenty of cushion to sleep on for a six-foot-tall hiker.
