About this deal

So it's more esoteric than Felt Mountain (and that's just my opinion, just so ya know cause I love that CD too for it has it's own special mystery). Wonderful sounds and arrangements abound, and I have to say this album really highlights Alison's vocal prowess and versatility (has anyone else noted that hint of Norah Jones), never more impressive than on Road To Somewhere. Road To Somewhere' as opposed to Road To Nowhere talks about a relationship wandering aimlessly and ponders if it is not too late to bring it back on track.

Opener, Clowns, captures both the eerie stillness and magic of nature, which counterpoints the subject matter of breast implants and surveillance magnificently. After the glorious synthpop plus of Supernature, Alison and Will continue to mine those spinal shivers with this emotive pastoral perfection. It's also a move that few who came in during the last album would've imagined, but in the grand scheme of all things Goldfrapp, it makes perfect sense. Other than that, it arrived when it should have (Friday's day of release), and I saved it for a nice Saturday morning listen with biscuits.

It shimmers and shines with the warmth of a hazy summer, an electric whirlpool of sound over which Alison's glistening voice soars. La musica di questo duo mi è sempre piaciuta e li sto riscoprendo tramite la serie dei vinili colorati. Not only did I pay this one used for 5 dollars, but it also came in a beautiful mini box digipack set. Does that look from Alison tell us that she is walking away from her glam period and wondering nervously if we will follow?

Whereas that album was grandiose, glammy, and almost aggressive in its brash, thrusting sexuality, Goldfrapp's fourth album is no less sensual, but rather more subtle in its approach. Little Bird, with its Beatlesque psychedelia and soaring vocal coda is probably the best thing they've ever done. The successor to two collections of camply sexualised, glam-influenced electro-pop, Seventh Tree represents a dramatic rethink: out go the stomping glitter beats and whip-crack synthesisers, in comes "psychedelic folk". postcards containing unseen photos included alternate shot of the owlman, and Allison standing in a cute polka dot uniform alongside a horse behind a tree.It makes me wonder why others can't put a whole album on one disc like this (and still sound good), as the whole two disc thing is just too much to be bothered with, even if they (Occasionally) bring anything more to the party in terms of sound quality.

In practise, this means much of Seventh Tree goes where earlier Gainsbourg disciples such as Air have gone before: chilled-out, soporific electronica with a light organic edge. In a mixed review, Rolling Stone 's Christian Hoard felt that the "slow pace can be a snooze", but wrote that the album "still makes for good post-party chill-out music".After spending years on the dancefloor with Black Cherry and Supernature, Goldfrapp take a breather with Seventh Tree. Una pieza más para la colección de reediciones que está lanzando Goldfrapp de sus discos anteriores con diferentes colores. Equally evident is that Goldfrapp and Gregory's songwriting powers have not been damaged in transit: opaque the sound may be, but the melody is beguilingly beautiful.
