About this deal

headphones are authentic yet modern, delivering high-performance sound like you’ve never heard before.

In Marshall's efforts to bring some pep into the Diamond Jubilee re-release, the Monitor II ditches the admittedly more travel-friendly canvas bag for an unquestionably gorgeous vinyl leather material with a soft felt interior for protecting your precious headphones.s, with the right EQ, can get pretty close to the IO-6es’ performance, and I found that I occasionally preferred the Marshalls to the DALIs.

If you don’t want to dive into the app, you can switch between three different presets by tapping the ‘M’ button on the headphones. Dramatic, revolutionary, and cosmic - coupled with those crisp spoken lyrics that feel timeless - the Monitor II capably handles the pulsing beats and exciting mystical ambience of We Come 1, but seemingly dials back on the heaviness of the bass in favour of vocal clarity. On paper, I had expected the 320 grams of weight to be a dealbreaker, but these headphones are so incredibly comfortable and fit around my head so well that I don’t feel the extra weight compared to the 196 grams of the Bose QC35 II.

On the left earcup, there’s an ‘ANC’ button that lets you toggle between regular active noise-cancelling, 'Monitoring Mode', and turning it off altogether. I’m not a huge fan of big thumping bass in my headphones, and the Marshall Monitor II ANC headphones toes that line masterfully providing just enough bump to keep me entertained without overdoing it.

The unit was provided by sound calibration software company SoundID, but neither Marshall nor SoundID had any say in the direction or published content. It's not necessarily uncomfortable, because there's generous cushioning in both the earpads and the headband, but the actual earcups do feel smaller than most circumaural pairs we test. Optimal alignment of the ear cups on the ears is ensured by the extensions, which can be pulled out in thirteen increments and snap-in tightly, and the ear cup suspensions connected to a combination joint. Its headphones, in particular, have been a big hit with fashion-conscious consumers and the new Marshall Monitor II ANC are its latest offering. This makes the Marshall Monitors a great over-ear option for commuters and frequent travelers as they’re extremely easy to put neatly into your bag or spacious pocket.

That's with noise cancellation switched on, too – turn it off and Marshall says you'll get 45 hours of wireless playback. They sound pretty good to my ears, too, and although they won’t suit those who treasure the throb of whomping bass, they sound great with most genres of music. It’s also extremely convenient to be able to access hear-through mode using a button on the headphones, rather than having to go into an app to do it -- in my experience, relegating any control to an app means it’s exponentially less likely to be used. This is a feature we really appreciated, as it gives you more control than what you’re afforded by the on-off button on the headphones themselves, without lumbering them with lots of hard-to-remember controls. The Marshall Monitors are over-ear headphones, meaning the earcups are supposed to fit comfortably around your ears and give a greater degree of noise isolation that on-ear models. So, going wire free is great from a design standpoint but how does it actually work when using the Marshall Monitors?
