About this deal

The Monarch 5 has a longer 19.5 millimeters of eye relief--very good. The Monarch 7 has a shorter eye relief of 17.2 millimeters--average, which may cause some eyeglass wearers not to see both edges of the entire field of view. In 2012, Nikon changed the name on one of the most popular binoculars in the history of optics. The Nikon Monarch ATB became the Nikon Monarch 5. It seems to have almost exactly the same optical qualities and mechanics, the only significant change being the printing on the body of the binocular.

How did I come to this conclusion? Let's take a look at the specs of the Nikon 5 vs 7 and compare them to what bird watchers need in a binocular. If you've been researching mid-priced binoculars you no doubt have the Nikon Monarchs on your list of best birding binoculars. Cameras – LCD screen is heavily worn either by de-lamination or has scratches to it. Rubber grips are starting to come away from the body. Lenses – The lens has dust inside that may affect images. The rubber zoom/focus ring is coming away from the barrel of the lens. Bird watching binoculars are typically within the range of 7-10x magnification. Most birding binoculars today are 8x (8 power magnification).

The MONARCH M5 series consists of three models: 8x42, 10x42 and 12x42. Their exterior has been completely redesigned from the MONARCH 5 binoculars into a clean form with straight lines.

Fully experience everything nature has to offer thanks to the MONARCH M5’s high optical performance. The binoculars feature fully multi-layer coated lenses and prisms, as well as a Dielectric high-reflective multilayer prism coating to ensure superior transmittance uniformity across the visible range, which results in brighter images and more natural colours. Meanwhile, its phase-correction coating minimises the loss of resolution to deliver high-contrast images. The binoculars (waterproof) were great on boat trips, though. It was great not worrying about moisture. The Nikon Monarch M5 8x42 is among the best pair of binos we've found in its price range. The Monarch provides solid all-around performance and super crisp images, whether the sun is shining or not. Magnification is directly related to brightness. If you want 10x no matter what, you'll sacrifice image quality under low-light conditions. You will also sacrifice field of view. Either of the 8x42 binoculars has better optical qualities than the 10x binoculars.

Your Basket

The more you magnify without changing the size of the objective lens (the big end) the less light is transmitted to your eyes. 8x42 binoculars are brighter than 10x42 binoculars. For the price and all the below features, we really couldn't find a better deal. We use them for leisure What's the difference between the model 5 and model 7 versions of the Nikon Monarch birding binoculars? Second thing: These binoculars are heavy. I think so. Sometimes I miss out on seeing birds because I just don't feel like lugging the binocs around.
