Overall, it is really no wonder that this book went on to be nominated for the 2013 UKLA Book Awards and won the Royal Mail Children’s book awards, it’s one of the most entertaining children’s books I’ve read in recent years and I just know that, if I were a child today, it would be the book I would be demanding my parent’s to read to me every night before bed.

This would be an ideal read-aloud for a class story time and young audiences will delight both in the absurdity of Louis' situation and Sarah's feisty response as she reinvents her bicycle to meet every challenge. Fortunately, nothing eats the Yumper before it reaches its lair, and Sarah is able to crawl into its mouth and that of each respective creature that was swallowed in the adventure.Though the idea is not original, Fardell's lively imagination ensures that the action does not flag.

It has really lit up my son's imagination - he's drawing picture after picture right now of the creatures in the book and other creatures that might exist in their world. If you want to try a creepy variation of this project, replace Tube Monster with a toilet paper tube replica of yourself.
