About this deal

Another very emotional read from Tom Palmer and Barrington Stoke. They’re the perfect pairing” Phil Earle, Author Look out for films on TV, including The Longest Day, Saving Private Ryan and Storming Juno. The TV series Band of Brothers starts with D-Day and is very powerful. There will be documentaries on TV too. But make sure what you are watching is age-appropriate. Omaha Beachhead". Historical Division, War Department. 20 September 1945. pp.53–54 . Retrieved 2007-06-10. Based on the real life story of paratrooper Emile Corteil and his canine companion Glen, D-Day Dog is an amazing, sensitive and interesting exploration of war. Stories from WW2, the Falklands and Syria are woven together in this fascinating and fantastic book!” Miss Hall

I would highly recommend this book to other people it has an interesting story and it feels like it has multiple in the one story and talks about the other side of the war not the tanks, guns and shooting but the emotional side of it like death and tragedies.

Lewis, Adrian R. (2001). Omaha Beach: A Flawed Victory. University of North Carolina Press. pp.2, 26. ISBN 0-8078-2609-X. Task Force O, commanded by Rear Admiral John L. Hall Jr., was the naval component responsible for transporting the troops across the channel and landing them on the beaches. The task force comprised four assault groups, a support group, a bombarding force, a minesweeper group, eight patrol craft, and three anti-submarine trawlers, numbering in total 1,028 vessels. [23] Infantry Historical Records". National Archives (College Park, Maryland), Rg. 407, 301-INF (16)-0.3, Box 5909, Report of Operations file. 9 July 1945. Archived from the original on 5 July 2007 . Retrieved 2007-06-21. By early afternoon, the strong-point guarding the D-1 draw at Vierville was silenced by the navy. But without enough force on the ground to mop up the remaining defenders, the exit could not be opened. Traffic was eventually able to use this route by nightfall, and the surviving tanks of the 743rd tank battalion spent the night near Vierville. [91]

Perhaps the ultimate memorial to the contribution of dogs to the D-Day landings is the shared grave of Private Emil Corteil and his dog Glen at the military cemetery at Ranville. Man and dog died side-by-side and were laid to rest together. The Army gave special permission for this to happen. Perhaps it was felt the 19- year-old and his faithful dog had died together for their country and should be together ever after. The inscription on the headstone was provided by the soldier’s parents and reads: “Had you known our boy you would have loved him too. Glen, his Paratroop dog, was killed with him.”D-Day Dog has just been voted (April 2022) favourite children’s audiobook by Calibre Audio, the national charity that provides a completely free for life audiobook service to everyone with a disability that makes reading print difficult or impossible, thank you to all who listened to my book and Rachel Reay for narrating. On the easternmost beach, Fox Green, elements of five different companies had become entangled, and the situation was little improved by the equally disorganized landings of the second wave. Two more companies of the 3rd Battalion joined the melee, and, having drifted east in the first wave, I/16 finally made their traumatic landing on Fox Green, at 08:00. Two of their six boats were swamped on their detour to the east, and as they came in under fire, three of the four remaining boats were damaged by artillery or mines, and the fourth was hung up on an obstacle. A captain from this company found himself senior officer, and in charge of the badly out of shape 3rd Battalion.
